Hello, everybody,<br /><br />This start to feel a lot like November to me: darker sky, muggier weather, and grumpier me. Every November, it feels like my world has turned upside down. My motto of this month is "Survive November, Survive the Year!" due to the amount of stress I am under every day. While the high-end ones work, I prefer the cheaper drugstore liners sometimes. Wet 'n' Wild and their cheap 99 cent liners that have beautifully (and ghoulishly) rimmed the eyes of many goth girls and boys for many years, also have chubby eyeshadow pencils. And you know who adores the chubby pencils? The color is not just plain white but has some pinkish glow in it, which is very lovely. While Bare Canvas dried fast, Pixie was kind of wet and I had to wait around for it to dry. My eye shadows looked more vibrant on the paint pot than on Pixie. I walked around the house for less than one hour and when I came back to check, the side that had Pixie already creased. I used it for my Halloween FOTD and I loved it so much. My lower lashes, after lining with Pixie, looked a lot better. Since then, I've gotten a bit more obsessive and lined my lower lash line and inner eye corners with Pixie a lot. This makes me look more wide awake and less beaten up. I guess I need to do a wide awake, big bright eyes tutorial soon. The last one I did last year I didn't like as much.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">As a brightening eyeliner, I'd give Pixie an A+. As an eyeshadow pencil, it gets a C for creasing way too much. I bought the black chubby liner from Idol Eyes as well but I did not like it that much. E.L.F Studio Eyebrow Kit: Brow Painting Makes Easy!

Hello, gorgeous!<br /><br />I've been tremendously busy lately and because of that, I did not have time to take pictures, edit them, and write reviews. As a result, I got into this "I have nothing to review" mood that potentially can cause me to spend more money to buy more stuff without taking pictures of them. Lucky me, I remember back in September, I took a lot of pictures of products I bought a loved. It turned out I did spend some time editing them and they are good to go. What a lifesaver, right?<br /><br />Remember my eyebrow how-to post I did back then? In that tutorial, I used the brow kit from NYC because the color matches me the best. However, NYC decided to phase out the Browster and I did not know that. This product is housed in a black sleek plastic case that somewhat resembles that of NARS eyeshadow duo. The consistency is between a wax and a gel, which means it is not too thick or too thin. The right side houses the brow powder, which looks a lot lighter in the picture. This kit also includes a dual end brush, which is not really useless. The slanted end is quite well-made despite the small size.<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I find this brow kit easy to use, almost goof-proof. If I just want holding power, the waxy brow gel does the job. However, if I want dramatically dark eyebrows, I add the powder on top of the gel. The holding power is great, I sweated under the sun and it did not move an inch.<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">However, the only caveat I have is the color. While I intentionally bought the darkest shade, it still looks light on me. On top of that, the brow powder has some sort of reddish pigments in it. (<a href="http://mymakeupblog.blogspot.com/2009/09/time-to-have-incredible-eyebrows.html">Click here</a> to see what I mean.) Therefore, it is not a really good match for me. Bath and Body Works Twilight Woods: Let Twilight Fever Begin!

If my recollection is correct, Edward Cullen does not eat. So who's going to eat le chocolat? Bella? I can actually imagine Bella Swan wearing something like this. I got a coupon for a mini-sized product and chose the Twilight Woods spray. In store, I could not smell a thing, despite dousing myself heavily with the eau de toilette spray. The fruity notes (berry, sparking mandarin, apricot nectar), and floral notes (frangipani, mimosa, honeysuckle, freesia) guarantee it to be a girly fragrance. On top of that, the base notes have skin musk and vanilla milk and I was sure this is going to be sweet. The base notes have oud wood and warm woods, which intrigue me as I've been interested in this woody-floral category ever since I tried Estee Lauder Sensuous.<br /><br />As I came home, I sprayed a bit of Twilight Woods on my body and waited to see what happened. As predicted, this is a sweet fragrance. (BBW classified it as a "Cuddly" perfume.) My body seems to emanate the vanilla and musk scents more than anything else. I barely smelled the top and mid notes. Also, there is just a touch of woods in there, not enough to satiate my thirst for a woody-floral perfume.<br /><br />I went a step further to compare it to BBW Sensual Amber, which was my favorite BBW scent. I found out Sensual Amber no longer smells as sexy as I remembered it. It used to have a hint of smokey and leathery kick that drew me into it. Now, it smells kind of bland. Twilight Woods, on the other hand, smells a lot like the Sensual Amber I remembered, but with less kick and more sweetness in it. I wonder if BBW reformulated their scents recently.<br /><br />With or without "Twilight", the saga, 'Twilight Woods" is going to be a success to BBW. It is very wearable, yet not cheesy, overly sexy, or cheap like the earlier renditions of BBW. Instead, it smells decent and sweet. For those who like to change their perfumes from summer to winter, this sits very well with the cold season. As usual, BBW products are quite affordable (the EDT is $29.50 USD) and if you scout for coupons, you'll get them even cheaper.<br /><br />What do you think of Twilight Woods? Have you tried it? Monday Food for Thought: Brush Matters

Hi everybody,<br /><br />Last night I could not sleep so I did what any makeup addict would do: I played with my makeup. During this time, I unearthed my once-upon-a-time favorite mineral blush called "Theme Park" from Everyday Minerals. The result was quite stunning: not only did the blush showed, it looked almighty bright on my cheeks! I had to use my ELF powder brush, which is a big flat top brush, to blend it out so I did not look too clownish.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBb_e8TSHgcMWdvrWJHSdXagOdA2lDfShG87mWUDmgEPU1ETBaSxU4XRCuayH55aVGEwAsCWwhiSggKSKunvj03sqzKJ6XEGsOq3-TctiYZRQuyPMuaNHtRC1BRj-JAmUvPZrEWEV_uso/s1600-h/IMG_2261.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a><br /></div>And this makes me think: do expensive brushes perform better?<br /><br /><a name="more"></a>For the earlier part of this blog, I have always defend the cheaper brushes and thought they did not make a difference, until I bought <a href="http://mymakeupblog.blogspot.com/2009/08/mac-217-blending-brush-i-cant-live-if.html">MAC 217</a> and 168 brushes. Although they cost me an arm and a leg (and I bought them during the FF sale), I use them everyday. The fibers are really soft and I feel joyful whenever I apply makeup. That feeling, by the way, only makeup addicts can understand. To me, they worth every cent I paid and then some because who can put a price tag on happiness, right?<br /><br />However, as much as I love these brushes, I still stand corrected with my opinion. The MAC 239 is not much different from <a href="http://mymakeupblog.blogspot.com/2008/08/brushes-on-budget-eye-collection.html">Loew-Cornell maxine's mop 3/4 inch</a>, however, the Loew-Cornell one is a lot cheaper. In most cases, the cheap brushes work as good but you get to save a lot of money.<br /><br />However, MAC does have a few brushes that I can't find good dupes, if they exist at all:<br /><ul><li>MAC 217: I would not have bought this brush if I found a dupe. Currently, the brush that they said to be a dupe of this one, the Loew-Cornell AMM 1/4 inch, is not a dupe. While it is a good brush and I enjoy using it, the L-C AMM does not look or perform anywhere near MAC 217.</li><li>MAC 268: this finally wows me after making "Theme Park" show on my cheeks. It is very soft and works very well as a contouring brush. The contouring lines are sharp and I don't need to spend a lot of time to go back and forth between the lines again.</li><li>MAC 275: I'm lemming this, I have an eye on it. Also, I've been looking for a painter's brush that's similar to 275. So far, no luck!</li><li>MAC 219: this is a strange brush, I've seen dupes but they are not as stiff as this pencil brush at all. I don't use 219 as much anymore but it is a good brush if you like to cut the crease.</li></ul>To spend or to save, that is the question.<br /><br />As I said earlier, I was very surprised at how well my MAC 168 brush performed. However, that doesn't mean I will switch all my brushes to MAC any time soon. That would cost me more than a month rent and some brushes I have, especially EcoTools, are really good. Nevertheless, if you want reliable brushes and have a few coins to toss around, please feel free to head toward MAC counter. This is very subjective and I can be equivocate to argue both sides.<br /><br />But to answer the first question, I do think MAC 168 works better than the other cheap contouring brushes I have. Therefore, I don't need to use 2, 3 brushes to serve the same purpose anymore because the one I have works just fine.<br /><br />That's all for today, folks! It contains choke-full beautiful pictures of people that Mr. Jones did makeover. The techniques are very well explained and at one point, I felt like being in a makeup school learning everything from scratch. The tone of this book is pleasant and explanatory with a dash of humor. I felt like he was standing in front of me and explaining various techniques to me.<br /><br />Two things that stood out from this book are applying foundation to people with multiple skin colors (face masking) and contouring. If you are a makeup artist whose clientele are minorities, you need to read the face masking part very carefully. After reading various makeup books, I come to a conclusion that male makeup artists love contouring very much. In books written by Kevyn Aucoin, Sam Fine, and Robert Jones, this technique is covered heavily. However, female makeup artists such as Bobbi Brown and Carmindy dislike contouring and prefer highlighting instead. Skin MD Natural Shieding Lotion: a "Plain Vanilla" Lotion that Works

Hello everybody,<br /><br />Recently, I got an opportunity to try Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion and I am glad I did. As we all know, my face likes to give me trouble, starting from when I was a teenager. Compared to the previous years, this year my skin is relatively well-behaved but as vain as I am, I want it to be crystal clear. When the offer to try Skin MD Natural landed in my mailbox, I was a bit reluctant because what else can any lotion do for me? I have been trying a lot already and I started to lose hope. As it is a water base lotion boosted with Aloe vera, it feels soothing. The first day I tried it, I had huge zits on the left side of my face and the other lotions I used did not do much to calm it down. While my face felt oily, my skin did not feel hydrated (and I have oily skin!) The bottle indicated this product is for face, hand, and body so I squirted a drop of it and applied to the zitty area that antagonized me. Immediately, my skin felt a lot calmer but still dehydrated so I applied another drop to my face. After this initial application, I went on with my day and forgot about the lotion.<br /><br /><a name="more"></a>Before going to sleep, I washed my face and noticed that same area felt less painful, so I applied the lotion all over. Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion is neither thick or thin. The consistency is similar to a regular body lotion but it does not have any filmy feeling afterward. It does not smell like anything, which makes me call it "my plain vanilla" lotion. Every time I apply it to my face, I feel a warming sensation for about a minute and it went away, which is the only thing that's not plain about it. In a sense, this lotion does not look like it can do much but as my skin felt better, I thought it would not hurt to give it a longer trial period.<br /><br />So, I tried it for about 2 weeks and guess what? My zits have become less and less painful to me. As of today, I only have a few zits on my face and some of them are on the way down. Also, I notice my skin is feeling smoother and more hydrated. This formula also contains some herbal extracts from arnica, comfrey, chamomile, and yarrow that have skin healing and soothing property. Vitamin E is also included as an antioxidant. Cyclopentasiloxane and dimethicone are there to make the skin feel silky and smooth while acrylates cross polymers and aminomethyl propanol are used as thickening agents. The last ingredient in the list, phenoxyethanol, is a preservative. Therefore, this product is paraben-free.<br /><br />While I griped at dimethicone, which gives my skin blackheads, I did not experience any breakouts because of this lotion. (I do have small breakouts because I have been stressed out of my mind!) I do enjoy this plain vanilla lotion a lot but one thing I do not love is the price: it costs $18 USD for a 4 oz bottle and shipping is expensive. However, if you buy 3 or more bottles, shipping is free. If I only use it for my face, it will last more than 2 months but for those who prefer to slather it all over the body, this is a pricey lotion.<br /><br />Will I buy it again? I really don't know. I like it a lot and hope somebody will sponsor me <a href="http://www.skinmdnatural.com/price-list.php">a gallon</a> to use (smile.) For those who are blessed with good skin, you may not need this. However, for those with problem skin, I think you should give it a try.
