Makeup Lesson: Cat Eyes with Gel Eyeliner

Hey y'all!<br /><br /> How are you doing today? This morning, I woke up with very sad news: a friend, colleague, and neighbor of mine just passed away. My initial reaction was to curl in bed and cry until I couldn't cry anymore. However, the more I thought about it, the less likely I would do so. My friend was one of a few friends who read my blog. I would not think she'd like me not to blog today because of her. Gel eyeliner was the last territory in makeup that I conquered. Since the first day I wore gel liner (documented <a href="http://mymakeupblog.blogspot.com/2008/09/jane-be-pure-mineral-gel-liner-review.html">here</a>), it had always been a constant struggle to line my eyes with gel liner properly. Recently, the cat eyed look has become popular, thanks to celebrities like Rihanna and Beyonce. Once you master the art of lining your eyes with pencil liner, gel lining can be quite painless. It is a bit smaller and thicker than the MAC 266, which makes it better to apply a thicker line. Before I discovered paint pots, I used to apply eye concealer to the lashes as an eyeshadow primer. The CoverGirl and Olay corrector I use feels like a creme. While the lasting power is not comparable to paint pot, it is an all-in-one product I can use. Wing it with a name card</td></tr></tbody></table>Place a name card close to the edge of your lower lash line and use it as a guide for your tail (or wing). Place the brush above the guide and apply enough liner to make a small flick, then slide the card out along the lower lash line. I find it better when I use my lower lash line contour as a guide to do the flick. Most brands out there have liners in a variety of colors and texture. You can layer different colors on top of each other or different textures together for a dashing look. So far, MAC Blacktrack is my go-to liner because it does not smudge or budge, despite my oily eyelids and constant humidity. The pot I have is about 9 month-old and there's still a lot of mileage to it. While it seems a bit more expensive than those from drugstore, Blacktrack is a good purchase for its price.<br /><br />Aslo, thank you for testing out my new comment system from <a href="http://www.disqus.com/">Disqus</a> (pronounce Discuss). Yesterday, I went to <a href="http://www.kohls.com/">Kohl's</a> for a quick browse and they had a bra sale. I ended up getting two new bras for myself. When I came home, I realized they were in different sizes. However, both fit me very well. This experience inspired me to write some tips about bra fitting because 80%-95% of women are wearing the wrong bra sizes. Determine your bra size:</b><br /><br /><a href="http://www.wikihow.com/Measure-Your-Bra-Size">This article</a> shows you how to determine your bra size. I find it informative but also, I find bras not to be the same in different companies. For example, a 36C at Victoria's Secret may fit you perfectly but a 36C from Calvin Klein may be too small for you. Also, the same size may not translate into same fit within different lines within the same company. If you wear Victoria's Secret bras, you will find that is the case.<br /><br />Which leads to the second point<br /><br /><b>2. Your size is a range, not a number:</b><br /><br />There are two elements in a perfectly fit bra: the band and the cup. The band is what encircles your ribcage. For labeling, the number indicates the band size, for example, 36. The cup size corresponds to how big your boobs are (I can't believe I just wrote that!) It ranges from AA to DD and beyond.<br /><br />You may run into a situation when the cup fits but the band is too long. Or you may run into the reverse situation. If both are too big or too small, chances are you get both the band and the cup sizes wrong.<br /><br />For the first situation (long band), you can remediate by going a band size smaller. However, you need to increase a cup size to compensate.<br /><br />For example: you find 36C to fit you but the band is too long. If you go down to 34C, the band will fit but the cup will be smaller. To compensate that, you need to go for a 34D and voila, it will fit.<br /><br />The way cup sizes are molded is the smaller the band goes, the bigger you increase your cup size to get the same fit. If you go smaller: 36C= 34D= 32DD and so on and so forth.<br /><br />Also, the same formula goes both way. If you decide to need a longer band, just go for a smaller cup size and you'll get a better fitting bra.<br /><br /><b>3. Be patient</b><br /><br />While this seems to be the advice I give to everyone, it is true when it comes to clothes fitting. If you haven't bought bras for a long time and notice significant changes in your body (ie, losing a lot of weight), chances are you need to spend a good amount of time for bra fitting. Some stores have bra fitting service for free so please take advantage of it.<br /><br />The first time I had a bra fitting was at Victoria's Secret. A sales lady gave me a box full of bras in my size and I went through each and every single one of them before setting on the one I like the most (Body by Victoria.) I find these tips useful when it comes to that kind of situation:<br /><ul><li>Wear the bra underneath your t-shirt, preferably the clingiest t-shirt you have: if the cup doesn't cover your boobs, the lines will show through the shirt. Also, you'll find how much lifting your bra can do for you.</li><li>Compare the new bra performance to the one you currently wear: preferably, you don't wear a sports bra. You need to check how lifting the new bra is, whether it gives you back fat rolls, etc.</li><li>Sit down for a while and see if the wires are comfortable or not</li><li>Move around a bit to see if the straps slide out or not.</li><li>Rinse, wash, repeat until you find a better bra. If not, stick with the brand you already wear and buy a new one.</li></ul> And please remember, your bras should feel comfortable, not like a booby trap. Yes, it does take time to find good bras but the result is so instantaneous that you don't feel like wasting your time at all. Preferably, you should get your bras measured about twice a year. As we get older, our bodies do change. Therefore, the bras you used to wear in middle school may not fit you anymore.<br /><br />Have fun with your bras! If you have other tips, please let me know. E.L.F. Eyelash Curler: One-Dollar Wonder

And while I don't have the legendary Shu Uemura lash curler, I do have the mini. The E.L.F curler has one advantage over the other curlers: since it is a mechanical eyelash curler, the pumping action is a lot swifter. The Maybelline was wonderful for the first 10 uses but after that, it became dull. Here's your cat treat.<br /><br />Ahem, although I'm not Chairman Meow (and I know the guy, he's a friend of Fidel Catstro), I believe a lil' bit of cat worship doesn't hurt anybody. After all, <strike>Dog</strike> God put us on Earth for human to worship, right? Right? So, please feel free to pamper me and for the thousandth time, Dao, please do not feed me chicken flavored cat food. It tastes like cardboard, can you believe she still feeds me that after all of my complaints here? Anyways, thanks to her and her cat food, I lost weight without going to Jenny Craig.<br /><br />But enough about me. Today, yours truly gato supremo will show you how to have good photos. As we all know, I'm blessed with good genes. People says I look like Cat Pitt crossed with George Maine Cooney. I do agree. I'm very good looking. That's why the ladies love me. Some people look good on the left, others on the right, others just smack dab at the center. I'm in the last group. You need to find that angle, record it, and practice it over and over and over again. It's not that difficult. You need a digital camera, a friend (or a tripod and self-timer function). Then take about 300 pictures of yourself in different angles. Then sit down and analyze what looks the best. And then, finally, you practice posing, smilin' with yo eyes and stuff.<br /><br />Believe me, you can be photogenic. It's all about the angle. Also, diet and exercise helps. And I mean it, that chicken cat food diet does wonder to my body. Either that or I have worms. Dao, I mean, Mommy! On top of that, I still have zits. I know, suck for me, right? The bad part of this is all the stuff I used in the past are shelved for now because not only do they not work, they also irritate my skin. I've seen this yellow bottle for a very long time in all drugstores, mass market stores, and wholesale shopping places such as Sam's Club and Costco. It is so old that people assume it's not that good. However, many celebrities and beauty editors use it <i>and they don't tell you</i>. But if you search their bathrooms, chances are you're going to bump into Neutrogena Deep Clean.<br /><br />I bought this product last year, before the dry skin outbreak of 2010 occurred. At that time, my sebaceous glands were still working vigorously and although this product is formulated for oily skin, it didn't cut through my grease. Also, at that time my moisturizer was probably still water and my skin was oily (just kidding about the water part but the oily part was true!)<br /><br />Fast-forward to the coldest days of '01 and my skin turned into Sahara desert with lots of zits. I tried a ton of different cleansers and each and every single time, my skin got worse. So I pulled this bottle out of the shelf and voila, my skin got a whole lot better. Not only did it not dry my skin, the salicylic acid in this formula also helps clear up the zits. Since salicylic acid is not listed as an active ingredient, my guess its concentration is less than 0.5%. However, the formula is great: it is sulfate, petroleum, and paraben free. In a magazine article, she said to use this product on her children and herself everyday. She's gorgeous and her daughters are adorable. I was sold!<br /><br />There was an adult version of this sunblock when Neutrogena launched this line. However, the adult one is no longer available but the baby version is still on sale, albeit being a bit difficult to find. Since my face does not like chemical sunscreens such as avobenzone and oxybenzone, physical sunblock such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide is my only resort.<br /><br />While it works great for me and my mom, the reviews at drugstore.come indicates this product to have some allergic reactions to children, probably from the inactive ingredients. Like many other physical sunblock, this one also has a whitening effect. On me, it vanishes after some couple of minutes. However, on people with darker skin like my mom, the white cast is very obvious. Hi everybody,<br /><br />What's up? Did you miss me? I hope you've been doing fine for the past two weeks. Yeah, I haven't been blogging for 2 weeks, y'all! Truth be told, all of the sudden I didn't feel like writing anything. Words that I wrote became meaningless and ridiculous. If that wasn't writer's block, I don't know what it is *smile*<br /><br />How was your Easter? Mine was so good that I still have sand in my shoes. This is the first Easter ever that I was by myself. On top of that, most places closed on Easter so I told myself, "What the heck, I'll make good use of this time. Alone or not!"<br /><br />Since I came to Florida, I always wanted to go to the beach. However, my hood is as landlocked as it can be so good luck with strolling to the beach during lunch hour. The nearest beach is St. George Island, which is about 2 hours drive away. For years, my friends and I have planned to go there for a day but always, things came up at the last minute. But mostly, I didn't want to drive.<br /><br />Yesterday, I almost didn't go. But something inside of me told me I'd better do it or else. I was really a compulsive last minute decision. I had a print out of the direction, a bottle of water, my bag, and some cash. When I crossed a six-mile bridge from the main land to St. George Island, I felt like driving in the clouds. This island is covered in white sand and rated one of the top-ten beaches in Florida. It is a rebuild from the old one that was collapsed from old age and a storm. It looked like fog never happened or something! And yes, the beach was on my right. It made driving a lot more relaxing!</td></tr></tbody></table>Now, I understand why Floridians do not have road rage problem. Look at the scenery: it's either a lot of trees or a beach or something beautiful. Even myself, a grumpy driver, felt very happy to drive back. If you happen to go to North Florida, I highly suggest you to go to St. George Island. On the day I was there, I saw a lot of folks from different states there. A couple of people came from Georgia and the car in front of me was from Louisiana. Also, a lot of folks from my state came with their families for a cook out.<br /><br />The next time I go, I'm sure to pack some food, sunscreen, and lots of towels. Yesterday was too cold to swim and I was in a let's say, delicate situation to be in the water anyways.
